For the last couple of weeks, we have been talking about the concept of synergy in the workplace and identifying its key elements. In the business world, synergy is what every team hopes to achieve. It creates an innovation incubator by boosting teamwork, leveraging individual contributor talents and building a culture of trust. The result is a go-getting energy which allows organizations to truly thrive.
This does not just happen. It takes consistent, intentional actions. Leaders need to demonstrate a commitment to implement these actions in a way that communicates their importance. One of the first steps is for leaders to be sure that the activities align to their environment. The benefits won’t be realized if there is not a good cultural fit.
In our search for usable tools, we found CultureMonkey. They help organizations develop engaged and motivated company cultures. They had a variety of suggestions for building synergistic teams and we thought we would share a few:
Traditional Team Building Activities
Icebreakers: Use fun icebreaker activities to break down barriers and encourage team members to get to know each other better.
Team-building workshops: Participate in structured workshops that focus on effective communication and collaboration.
Trust exercises: Engage in trust-building exercises like blindfolded trust walks or trust falls to strengthen team bonds.
Team-building games: Provide team building time and focus on games such as escape room challenges or team-building board games.
Collaboration Activities
Problem-solving challenges: Present teams with real or hypothetical problems to solve collaboratively, fostering critical thinking and innovation.
Cross-functional projects: Assign team members from different departments to work together on projects.
Simulations: Use business simulations or role-playing exercises to mimic real workplace scenarios and encourage problem-solving.
Reflection Activities
Brainstorming sessions: Hold brainstorming sessions to generate creative ideas and solutions for specific challenges or projects.
Feedback circles: Establish a culture of feedback. This can be done through a debriefing process. Check out G2 Solutions blogs about why debriefing is important and building a good debriefing process.
Team reflection: Periodically, hold team reflection sessions to assess progress, discuss challenges, and set goals for continuous improvement.
Connection Activities
Peer mentoring: Pair team members for mutual mentoring, where they exchange knowledge and skills.
Storytelling workshops: Encourage team members to share stories or experiences that foster empathy and understanding.
Cultural exchange: Celebrate diversity within the organization by organizing cultural exchange events where team members share their cultural backgrounds.
Implementing a variety of these offerings create opportunities for team members to understand and connect with one another in more nuanced ways. As they develop a deeper understanding of each other, synergy builds and the organization soars.
