"You see, in every job that must be done there is an element of fun. You find the fun, and snap! The job’s a game.” – Mary Poppins
Last week, we talked about the benefits of infusing levity and fun into the workplace. LINK. It eases tension and promotes camaraderie. People who laugh together tend to trust each other more.
Today, we’ll share some thoughts about how to do this.
Of course, there are many ways to bring more lightness to work and what works in one setting may not work in another. Here are a smattering of suggestions that might spark some ideas or your own.
Play a quick game of darts, paper football, or trashcan basketball
Play music and invite everyone to dance
Celebrate birthdays and work anniversaries
Start meetings with icebreakers or quick games
Post riddles or brain teasers in common areas
Go on walks together
Have theme days for staff to dress accordingly such as, Show Your Team Spirit Day or Dress Like a Superhero Day
Have each department come up with a mascot
Nonchalantly hum a tune and see how many people you can get to absentmindedly start humming it
Sign your email with a joke
Use a silly zoom background in virtual meetings
Remember that you don’t have to take a huge chunk of time away from work to lighten things up a bit. Just five minutes of play can do a lot to relieve stress and bring people together.
How do you have fun at work? Please tell us. We’d love to hear your ideas.
